Tom Laws

Co-Director

I have been with the group for more than 15 years, and during this time I have gained a deep understanding of all company processes and procedures, as I have been involved in all areas of the business including project management, estimating, and commercial management. I hold an IFE L3 in Passive Fire Protection and a Level 7 NVQ in Construction Project Management.

The most satisfying part of my role is working with our great team; we challenge each other, as we all understand the business “Why”, which drives us towards our goals.

Has to be an Old Fashioned

Do you prefer dogs or cats?

Dogs! At head office, we are a dog friendly establishment and usually have four or five dogs around the office. I bring in my French bulldog, Lula, and English bulldog, Elsie, daily, and they spend seven hours a day snoring in my office.

I have read Legacy: What the All Blacks Can Teach Us about the Business of Life recently, and my most significant takeaway point was “it’s not how well an individual performs, it’s how well they work as a team.”

Richard is committed to delivering exceptional service to our clients and takes pride in impressing them with the solutions Virtuscan can provide.

Do you prefer dogs or cats?

Absolutely dogs. I have a 3-year-old cocker spaniel who can on occasion be found on site if it’s outside and safe for all involved! He’s a ball of energy and causes chaos in the office, but I wouldn’t change him.

Is there any experience you think everyone should be required to have? What is it?

A chance to travel for three or more months. I’m lucky enough to have seen some great places and done a trip longer than a typical holiday, and seeing the different people, cultures and landscapes was amazing.

What’s one item you can’t leave home without?

Battery pack for my phone and my headphones – it’s an addiction and not a good one, but I hate not being able to listen to a podcast or music when travelling/commuting or sitting in an office. I also waste a lot of time on social media/LinkedIn, but it’s not all bad as it helps keep me in the loop with what’s possible.
